Edinburgh Castle

7 06 2009

We made the trip up to Edinburgh for the second of the May long weekends to visit friends (our first trip there in over a year), and while there took advantage of the weather to finally explore the lovely and atmospheric Edinburgh Castle

A tale of two Freddies

22 10 2008

Looking through my photos just now, I spotted a neat duo that I thought I’d share. Hope you like them :)

Freddie statue Montreux

Statue of Freddie Mercury in Montreux

This first photo is of the statue that stands in tribute to the Queen frontman, who lived his final years in Montreux. The flowers are to celebrate what would have been his 60th birthday on September 2, 2006.

The next photo is outside the Dominion Theatre in London’s West End, where the musical We WIll Rock You has been playing for years.

Kaiser Wilhelm Gedaechtniskirche

16 08 2008
Modern-day Berlin as a city is one that hides most of it’s recent history well – much of the damage that’s left from WWII has been preserved, rather than ignored. However, so much of the damage from the war and the partition of the city, that’s what’s left forms incredibly poignant memorials.

These are my photos of the Kaiser Wilhelm Gedaechtniskirche – what was the city’s main cathedral before the war, and is now Berlin’s most moving monument to the distructiveness of war.
