The following is the third installment of my ‘Russian winter in London’ series of posts, following on from my previous two posts (Snow in London, and Snow in London – part 2).
To follow on from my previous post (Snow in London), here are some of the photos that I took today while ‘playing tourist’ in London. Well, I thought I may as well, since it seems that when more than a dusting of snow falls in the south-east of the UK and almost all public transport grinds to a standstill.
And we’ve not seen the last of it either – as I type / compose this post, I’m watching ever more big, fat snowflakes add themselves to the city’s new winter blanket.
London’s currently enjoying a ‘Russian period’, and we’re enjoying (well, some of us are) the results of a little bit of hijacked Russian winter weather. So just when I thought I’d probably seen the last of ‘my’ snow of the winter, a whole lot has come to visit me
These photos are from last night, Sunday 1 February.
I took these photos to try to capture a glorious winter’s afternoon on Lac Leman
I have a feeling that there will be a number of future posts on a similar theme – depending on whether I manage to get to all the locales one my list with lovely Christmas lights. There’s something quite romantic about the dark afternoons and the fairylights brightening open spaces.
Well, that’s my take on it, and perhaps because I grew up knowing hot Christmases I will always feel that a cold Christmas is something akin to living in a Christmas card. So there you have it – I’ve outed myself. I am a Christmas tragic, and am proud of it
The Christmas markets in Hyde Park are a fabulously almost-kitsch hybrid between temporary mini theme park and Anglecised Weihnachtsmarkt.
But having said that, the lights are lovely, and they make for a good photography subject. Here are some of the photos I took on the weekend:
